Story Analysis: Love is a Fallacy by Max Schuler

Love is a Fallacy is a somewhat romantic-comedy-drama that involves three young people with the girl in the middle of it all. Their names are as follows: let's call him Chadwick (the main character with no name), Poly, and Petey.
Chadwick sees himself as the epitome of future success and a man worthy of admiration. He is a law student at 20 years of age but he is looking very far ahead in his lifetime. According to him, successful lawyers must have smart, elegant, and obedient partners by their side. As such, he concluded that even he deserves the same thing because his success is already inevitable.
However, he likes a girl who just so happens to be Petey's friend, Poly. For him, Poly is everything he'll ever want in a woman but there is one thing that concerns him the most - Poly's questionable intelligence.
Luckily for him, Petey was moping in their dorm room looking all sad and gloomy. Chadwick asked him what was bothering him and he said that he needed to have a specific item for him to be truly happy. Chadwick asked what it was and it was a raccoon coat that No Name conveniently has back in his parent's home.
"I'd give anything for one," Petey said.
"Anything?"
"Anything."
That very next week, Chadwick arrived carrying a raccoon coat and when Petey asked for what he wanted, he only said one thing.
"Poly."
The two young men talked and they agreed on their terms. Chadwick gets to take Poly on dates and he gets to have the raccoon coat for free.
It didn't take Chadwick long to organize 5 consecutive dates with Poly and she was none the wiser. She didn't realize that he was attempting to build her up to his standards but little did he know that his own doing would soon get back at him soon enough.
Chadwick spent four days educating Poly about logic and then on the fifth day. He finally made his move to ask her to be his girlfriend. This is where he starts to use every arsenal he has at his disposal but every time he opens his mouth, a fallacy comes out and Poly was more than happy to correct him of his mistakes.
In the end, he asked her to give him one logical reason why she isn't willing to date him and who she plans on going out with.
"Petey."
"Why?" Chadwick asked, feeling crushed, insulted, humiliated, and confused at the same time.
"Because he has a raccoon coat," she smiled.
This is just a quick summary of the story but you get the gist. All in all, this story made me realize at a young age that it's better to be careful of what you teach somebody because things can backfire most of the time.
Chadwick, as malicious and foolish as he can be, is a clear representation of arrogance and overconfidence that I have been trying to shake off for many years. I do know that I am a person needing to be humbled most of the time which is why as funny as this story is, the lesson behind this piece is what helps me keep myself in check.
Poly and Petey, represented the people we often underestimate academically. Although they may not perform up to our standards on the academic scale, they were even wiser when it comes to real-life application and living life with every little whimsy. Who dates somebody just because they have a raccoon coat, right? And who, in their right minds, allows other guys to take his girlfriend on dates?
It might have been a prank between Poly and Petey but I think that they were being genuine in their goals throughout the story. As for Chadwick, I think he deserved what he got for attempting to build his perfect girl out of Poly.
To get a clear view of Max Schuler's Love is a Fallacy, I have a surprise for you! If you're a huge Marvel fan, then I think you're going to appreciate the actor who plays the main character in the story.
Clue: It's in the name. -
