When we were kids, we thought we could do anything, just like the heroes and heroines in our favorite fairy tales. But as we get older, we realize that those stories were a bit too perfect. "Damsel" takes on this idea, offering a fresh look at the classic princess story.

Character Portrayal

Millie Bobby Brown shines in "Damsel." You might know her from "Enola Holmes" and "Stranger Things." In this movie, she becomes Elodie, a princess facing tough times. What's special about Brown's acting is that she shows strength without being too obvious about it. She makes Elodie feel real, flaws and all. Credit goes to Dan Mazeau for creating a character who breaks the mold. Elodie isn't your typical princess; she's brave but also vulnerable, which makes her story compelling.

The Story

"Damsel" tells a simple yet powerful story. In a world full of predictable fairy tales, this movie keeps it real. Elodie's journey isn't about big adventures or heroic deeds; it's about staying strong when things get tough. The movie feels both timeless and relevant, challenging old ideas about heroes and what it means to be a woman. I was drawn to Elodie's journey because it felt genuine. Unlike other fairy tales, "Damsel" doesn't rely on magic to move the story along. Instead, it focuses on real emotions like duty, sacrifice, and finding yourself.

The Production

Some critics have complained about the movie not being realistic enough, but I disagree. "Damsel" is a fantasy set in a made-up world, so it's okay if things seem a bit out there. The director and the rest of the team did a great job bringing Elodie's world to life. From the costumes to the sets, everything looks amazing. What really stands out is how the movie sparks your imagination. The visuals and storytelling make you feel like you're part of Elodie's world, full of wonder and magic.

Final Thoughts

Overall, "Damsel" is a fantastic movie. Millie Bobby Brown delivers a standout performance, and Dan Mazeau's writing is top-notch. While it's not perfect, the movie offers a fresh take on the princess story. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a fantasy film with depth. It reminds us that true strength comes from facing life's challenges head-on. Disclaimer: These are just my thoughts on the movie.
